Reading to understand better, discussing to act better.
Essences citoyennes is a book club focused on environmental issues—a space for ongoing civic learning. It features thought-provoking readings on contemporary challenges, enriching discussions with invited guests, and an accessible approach that encourages community engagement.
This project is led by Coralie Beaumont, PhD candidate at Université de Sherbrooke. Her research explores biodiversity governance through communication and information studies. A former science journalist, she is passionate about connecting research with public dialogue.

Both clubs follow a simple format: participants come ready to share and discuss one or more books they’ve recently read. All are welcome.
Are you an Anglophone looking to improve your French, or a Francophone hoping to practice your English? Both clubs welcome those who want to connect through literature in another language.
