Join us for a collage workshop with artist Joanna Chelkowska. The workshop will begin with a talk by our guest artist and will be followed by a collage session to create a collective artwork that will be exhibited at the library. This workshop is for adults. For kids activities, see below.

About the artist :

Joanna Chelkowska is a professional artist who lives and works in Sherbrooke. She holds a bachelor’s degree in drawing and painting from Concordia University as well as a graduate degree in contemporary art practices from the University of Sherbrooke. In addition, she was awarded the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec (CALQ) grant in 2012, 2015 and 2019. She practices drawing, painting, collage and animation. She expresses problems that are at the frontiers of the intimate and the collective: the obsession of the body, the loss of reference points, the withdrawal into oneself. Her work is deeply rooted in the material, it develops in contact with materials and tools in the studio.

About the Poetry. Art. Community. project:

The project brings together artists with members of the community– children, adolescents and adults– to participate in papermaking, screen printing and collage workshops where everyone will be invited to reflect on the connection between art and poetry by creating works inspired by the poems of Steve Luxton, Poet in residence at the Library.
